The LWVLC Leadership Team voted on Nov. 4 to go ahead with the “in-person” Dec, 2021 meeting at the Sylvia Beach Hotel. In past years, we welcomed members AND guests to our Holiday Luncheon, but this year, it is open to fully vaccinated Members of Record only. The owner of the hotel says we were the last group (Dec. 2019!) to have a luncheon in the downstairs dining area! Guests have been coming for dinner during the past year, but with these safety measures in place: Minimal numbers, spread out diners at spread out tables; masks for everyone except during meals and (recently added) proof of vaccines (2) on a vaccine card, copy or cell phone. For Dec. 16, all members will “check in” (with mask) at a table near the downstairs outside door, by which we will enter. A hotel staff member will check vaccination status. It is extremely important to bring proof of your vaccinations (many of us will have had our third, the booster, by our Dec. date, as well), or you will not be able to stay. You will be provided a name tag…. remember, many of us have never met each other!!! There will be no specific seating; you may sit at any of the five spaced tables, with five persons to each table. Our maximum number of guests, 25, is five more than the Sylvia Beach Hotel usually serves in the evenings, but the owner feels we are a responsible group and increased the limit for us. Schedule/Details: Arrive by 11:45 am. Luncheon will begin between 12-12:15. There will be one server, so we will be patient!! Chef Rowan has planned a scrumptious- sounding array of food for us, at $25 per person, including the 20% tip. Cranberry Mimosa’s (both alcoholic/non-alcoholic) for sipping while we introduce ourselves. *(hard drinks/wine may be ordered at your own expense); Appetizer: Butternut Squash Soup/homemade bread; Salad/Entrée: Citrus/Beet Salad with Champagne Vinaigrette dressing; Vegetarian Holiday Lasagna; Dessert/coffee and tea: Dark Chocolate Pots de Crème. After we finish our entrée and the tables are being cleared, there will be a quick break while dessert/ beverages are served, and Judge Benjamin will begin. I have asked her to talk for approximately 30-40 minutes, including responses to questions. After she leaves, we will have a short business meeting, announcements of upcoming programs, etc., if necessary.
Owner Cyd tells me that if you feel comfortable and still want to visit after the conclusion of the meeting, you are welcome to stay downstairs as late as 3:00 pm. (The lobby of the hotel, upstairs, for those of you who have never been there is quite interesting, so some of you may want to take a peek.) To reserve your seat at the table, you should send a check made out to LWVLC for $25, to me, Marilyn Podesta, 75 SW Gull Station, Depoe Bay, OR 97341. The checks need to be received by Dec. 2. After the Dec. 2 date, I will send all who are reserving a confirmation email, and any additional information you will need. I am hoping that there will be room for all members who want to take part, so please be prompt in sending your reservation to me. Questions? emmyrumsey@centurylink.net or 541-765-4422
